Nottingham Circus Arts

More than a place to learn circus — a space to discover new skills, build confidence, challenge yourself and be part of a community.

Nottingham Circus Arts offers aerial, acrobatics, circus skills, movement and performance opportunities for children, young people and adults, alongside a growing programme of workshops, events and activities for the wider community.

From someone stepping into the space for the very first time to students developing advanced skills, performers working towards their next goal or adults simply looking for a new way to move and train, we want people to be able to find something here that works for them.

Our regular sessions sit at the heart of what we do, but Nottingham Circus Arts is more than a timetable of circus training. Our space gives us opportunities to introduce different movement and wellbeing activities, host workshops and events, collaborate with other instructors and organisations, and open our studios to suitable community activities and private hire.

For us, it's about creating a space where people can learn, train, create, connect and discover something new.

Our Story

Nottingham Circus Arts has its roots in Tuyo Circus Arts, which has been part of Nottingham’s circus community for around 17 years.

Over that time, many children, young people and adults have come through its doors — some discovering circus for the first time, others training for many years and going on to perform, teach or pursue circus at degree and professional level.

Like any organisation with a long history, it has changed and evolved. The last two years have brought a particularly significant period of development, with a growing team, a broader range of sessions and disciplines, new programmes and pathways, and an increasing focus on the different ways people can experience, enjoy and progress through circus.

In 2026, another major chapter began with the move into our own dedicated space in Nottingham. This created new possibilities not only for circus training, but for workshops, events, movement and wellbeing activities, community use, collaboration and a much wider range of opportunities.

In mid-2026, the decision was made to begin the transition from Tuyo Circus Arts to Nottingham Circus Arts, reflecting both how the organisation had evolved and the direction it was moving in.

Nottingham Circus Arts represents the next chapter in a story that began many years before the name itself. It recognises the history and community that came before it while creating space for the organisation to continue changing, growing and responding to the people it serves.

After almost two decades of circus in Nottingham, our story is still evolving — and there is much more still to come.

Our Mission & Values

“We believe everyone should have the opportunity to experience circus — whether it becomes an hour of fun, a lifelong passion or the beginning of a career.”

Our mission is to make circus and creative opportunities accessible to more people, create genuine pathways for those who want to progress, and continue developing a strong, welcoming community where people can belong, explore and achieve.

We value individuality, inclusion, encouragement and opportunity. There is no single reason to take part and no single measure of success. Someone trying circus for the first time deserves just as much encouragement as someone working towards performance, further training or a professional career.

Accessibility is something we aim to put into practice. Through supported places, free and discounted opportunities, different types of sessions and our work with circus organisations, charities and community partners, we continue to look for practical ways to reduce barriers and widen participation.

We are equally committed to progression and opportunity. Students who want to take their training further can access pathways into performance, advanced training, assisting and coaching, with support towards further education and professional circus training where that is their goal.

Our community and partnerships are already an important part of who we are, and we want to continue strengthening them — sharing opportunities, learning from others and finding new ways to support the people and communities around us.

And while circus will always be at our heart, we want Nottingham Circus Arts to be a space for more: movement, wellbeing, creativity, training, collaboration and new ideas. A space that can be shared and enjoyed by people with many different interests and reasons for being here.

Accessible. Inclusive. Supportive. Progressive. Creative. Community-minded.
